Xusal (Levocetirizine) belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistamines. Xusal was developed as a third generation drug, the predecessor of which is cetirizine. Unlike the first and second-generation antihistamine drugs, Levocetirizine does not prevent the mast cells from producing histamine. Xusal prevents the histamine from binding onto the receptors after it is produced by the mast cells. This also prevents other allergy chemicals from being produced and also aids in increased blood supply to the affected area. All these actions help in immediate relief from the allergic symptoms once Xusal is administered. Xusal has become a very popular drug for treatment of allergic symptoms because of its non-sedative nature.
