Suprax (Cefixime) is an antibiotic in the cephalosporin class of drugs. Cefixime stops bacteria from multiplying by preventing bacteria from forming the walls that surround them. The walls are necessary to protect bacteria from their environment and to keep the contents of the bacterial cell together; bacteria cannot survive without a cell wall. Suprax is used for the treatment of bacterial infections such as sore throats, ear infections, tonsillitis, laryngitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, staph, urinary tract infections (UTIs), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and gonorrhea.
